Choosing Your Domain Name

Choosing your domain name or URL (the www. part  .com) is one of the crucial steps in setting up your website.  Choosing the best name can assist in getting targeted traffic to your website.  Even though you may already have a clinic name, it may not be the best if you are going to depend on search engine traffic to build your practice.

Some one who may be looking for your services will most likely be searching with some of the following keywords:  massage, massage therapy, and then the name of your town or city.  The key is to choose a name that reflects those keywords so that your pages will be the first on the list.  Say your practice is on the corner of State and Union - it may be more beneficial to name your site stateandunionmassage.com than healingtouch.com.

The best way to figure out what you want your domain to be is to follow the steps set up with the Sitebuildit! Program that I highly recommend.  They have a unique software program that helps you decide what terms people most likely will be searching for to find a massage therapist in your area.  It is a complete hosting, website building and traffic building webhost that anyone can use no matter how much one does not know about computers!

Some other tips about domain names:

  • Never register the name with network solutions.  I started out with them in 1999 with my current site www.thebodyworker.com and it took me 3 years to transfer the name to another registrar.

  • If you use Sitebuildit! they automatically register your domain name and keep up with renewals.

  • If you are going to use an alternate hosting company like  www.ez-webhosting.com  , they will register your domain for a fee and keep track of renewals for you.
