 Learning Sports Massage

Sports Massage is a division of massage therapy that focuses on working with athletes.  Massage can be used to

enhance performance, build strength and endurance, prevent and treat injuries.

There are some specific techniques used by sports massage therapists.  Swedish massage techniques have basically been modified to meet the conditions and stress of the specific stress of the athlete.

The key to sports massage is learning the basic principles of athletic training and applying massage techniques to enhance that training.  Most massage schools have a separate elective module in sports massage.  There are also some professional associations that offer sports massage certification.

At the present, it is not necessary to be certified in sports massage to say that you are a sports massage therapist.
