Listening Skills

The process of listening really intrigues me.  I am constantly learning how hard it is to listen...really listen to clients and anyone else.

Listening is the foundation of the therapeutic relationship.  Most of the healing occurs just in the listening stage.  Our techniques take the process further by allowing the client to feel themselves while being touched.

The key to listening is to be able to get yourself out of the way.  The things that get in the way of listening are our own stories and thoughts that we have created to keep ourselves separate.  I have further information on the things that get in the way of listening at my other website - www.massagepracticebuilder.com

When we listen with the intent of understanding we have to be able to put aside our own need to be listened to.  This can be very difficult and painful.  It is helpful to try to get this need met outside of your practice in your personal life so that you can become a better therapist.  The process of supervision is one place where you can begin to get that need met.  Another part is how we listen to ourselves.  When we are constantly saying that we are going to do things and continue to neglect doing them and do other things we are not listening to ourselves.  When you don't listen to yourself, how will you be able to listen to others.

As I explore this concept more and more, it becomes clear how difficult it is and how necessary it is.

Listening is the key to promoting your business.  When you can listen carefully to others to really find the deep need they have, you can then find a way that your service or product will be able to be beneficial to that person in need.
