PetrissageDefinition:
Intermittent grasping and releasing movement that attempts to lift the soft tissue away from the underlying and adjacent structures. With petrissage, skin and muscle tissues are raised from their usual position and then squeezed, rolled or pinched in a firm, usually circular pressure. Applications: Petrissage can be done by lifting, stretching, rolling, compressing, kneading or squeezing the tissue. It can be applied using full hands, thumbs and fingers or fingertips. The most important factor in applying petrissage is that there be a definite picking up, or lifting of the muscle tissue. Variations and Techniques
