Insurance Billing Provider
Contracts
Contracts: Read contracts
with a fine tooth-comb. Some
things to look for are things like what other requirements are needed to maintain credentialing, like soap charting classes or
liability insurance coverage. You also may be required to take patients even
though your schedule is booked. Your contract will outline the allowable fees
for services and you will be notified of changes. There may be limits as to how
long you have to file and re-file a claim that is in question. This usually
varies from 6 months to a year. That means if there is any problem and it takes
longer than a year (which I have seen happen) you are out of luck and won’t get
paid nor can you ask the client to pay you.
It is also important as a
profession, that we have legal advisors read the contracts. They are being
set up for the profession. We need to have more say in what we want for
our profession when working with insurance companies.
