How will anyone find you online anyway?

There are so many search engines it is almost impossible to keep track of them.

The main search engines to be concerned about are listed at Search Engine Watch.  In order for a search engine to find you, you have to submit your site to them so they can come out and crawl it with their spiders for content (that’s what they call indexing your site).  Each

page should be submitted regularly until your site is listed and you have to continually submit them to keep them indexed.

Each of the different search engines search using different criteria.  The main ones are Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL and ASK.  There are also a number of directories that will list your site, but again you have to submit them.  The submission addresses are listed at Search Engine Watch.  Some search engines frown on you submitting your site too many times and too often.  To keep up with it all would take up most of your time.

Sitebuildit! Does all the submission to the major search engines for you each time you build a page.  Take a quick tour of Sitebuidit to get an idea of al of the things that it can do...

EZ Web Hosting has a submission form for some of the search engines, but not all.

Even after doing all of this, it doesn’t mean that your pages will get listed or even have a chance at getting to the top of the listings.

Getting to the top requires constant attention to page layouts, creating content and building traffic.
