Hiring a web designer or
doing it yourself.

Visit my other site - Guide to Making Websites

Now you know some of what is involved in creating and maintaining your own website. You can choose to do it yourself using some of the techniques and ideas in this manual or you can choose to hire someone to do it for you.  If you are thinking of hiring someone, you now know more of what you need from that company or person.  You can pay for a lot of money for a cool flash design or highly visual website, but it won’t do you any good if you can’t get people to the website with search engines.

  • You need a website that attracts targeted traffic

  • You need someone to submit the pages to search engines regularly

  • You need someone to add pages and update pages regularly

  • You need someone who knows how to create the pages so the search engines find you.

  • You need the ability to send out a newsletter, keep track of subscribers.

  • You need quality content.  Most designers don’t provide content and if they do, it is just a standard template and everyone’s will look and say the same.

For the most part technical website designers don’t know much about getting your website to the top of the search engines.  You will most likely have to tell them how to build the pages and write all of the content yourself.  Some of the do it yourself templates lack the ability to get your site listed in the top results.  Free hosting sites are unprofessional as they usually have pop-up ads.

If you can’t decide on which way to go with your website, try out this little decision making tool  - Chooseit! That is also provided for free by Sitebuildit!  It only takes a few minutes.  You can use it as many times as you like for making any kind of decision from what shoes to wear to work today and what to have for dinner to what web hosting program should I use or who should I hire to make a website that works.
