Becoming a Sports Massage Therapist can be a very exciting career and opportunity.  You will be able to work with professional and amateur sports teams, professional and amateur athletes and weekend athletes.  The focus of the massage is on the performance of the athlete using massage during training to help improve strength and speed, during  competitions before and after events to prevent injuries and to help recover from injuries.

To begin with you will first need to go through basic massage school which will often offer an elective in sports massage training. Some states local associations will often have a sports massage team that will coordinate events where you can get experience as well as extra training and certification.

Sports Massage Therapists Salaries will vary depending on your skills and ability to promote yourself.  Most massage therapists in general start their own business.  You will be able to set up your sports massage business to work with teams or individuals.  Sports massage jobs are not as common.  Salaries vary from $12 an hour to $50 an hour and more.
